Most 2 year old children have bags and bags of energy. They need entertainment almost all the time. With this in mind, I've rounded up a list of toys which I believe are fantastic for 2 year olds. The toys will keep them engaged, entertained and amused while also helping them learn and grow as individuals.
Here are my top toys for 2 year olds:
1. Lego Duplo - This is a toy that's been around for years and is still very popular with good reason. The large Duplo bricks are perfect for small hands and they encourage imagination and creativity. The colours are bright and the bricks can also be used to teach colour by sorting them in to colours. As your child grows, you can also add to the bricks to keep your child interested and to provide new challenges.
2. Role play toys - Around the age of 2, children start to indulge in role play and you can give them toys to encourage this. Some popular toys for role play are mini pots and pans, mini tea sets and play food.
3. Arts and crafts - While involved and complicated craft activities will be beyond most 2 year olds, just some basic craft equipment will delight and allow your child to express their creativity. Large crayons with a colouring book and some bright coloured paper with glue will be plenty for them to start learning about drawing and making things.
4. Ride on toys - Children and especially 2 year olds love ride on toys. There are several versions of this toy available so just pick one. If your child is keen on trains, you could get a train ride-on or a car ride-on for a car enthusiast.
5. Books - While books aren't exactly toys, they are essential to encourage a love of reading. And I truly believe that you can never have too many books. Before they can read, children love being read to. And it's a great opportunity to have some fun too. Just put on different voices for the various characters you're reading about and watch your child squeal in delight. Books are also a great way to spend some quiet time with your 2 year old either by reading to him or he can turn the pages and look at the pictures himself.
There are several other toys that 2 year olds would love and can learn from. But the above 5 are the ones I think are the best and most enjoyable.
